GomSpace-owned Aerial & Maritime closes first big deal 30-03-2017 - 14:00

Aerial & Maritime today signed a significant deal with Spanish AISTECH Srl regarding the exchange of data that gives both companies a virtually global tracking possibility of airplanes and ships.

Aerial & Maritime Ltd. (A&M) was founded on Mauritius last year with the purpose to own and run a fleet of nano satellites that are to be sent into low orbit around the Equator. The satellites will surveil airline and shipping traffic 37 degrees North and South of the Equator by capturing airplane ADS-B signals and AIS ship signals, respectively. This will make it possible for African nations to collect fees from the companies that either use African airspace or waters – a source of income that they hitherto haven’t had.

Today, A&M signed its first large order with the Spanish company AISTECH Srl. AISTECH has established a similar surveillance operation with satellites over the North and South Pole, and together, AISTECH and A&M are thus capable of offering a virtually global airplane and ship tracking service. Both companies’ clients have shown great interest in this, and the order size for A&M is between 1-8 million EUR initially and between 1-4 million EUR for AISTECH. In advance of this order, AISTECH has purchased two GomSpace satellites to be launched into orbit around the poles.

  • With A&M’s four nano satellites orbiting around the Equator, it takes us about one and a half hour to circle the globe. The same goes for AISTECH around the poles. The companies’ orbit tracks combined with the rotation of the Earth makes it possible for us to offer an almost total coverage of the Earth, and a long list of companies, shipping companies, airlines and government authorities see great perspectives in this, says Karsten Ingemann Pedersen, CEO of Aerial & Maritime Ltd.

AISTECH has furthermore specialized in the instrumentation that is used in GomSpace’s nano satellites. Therefore, the agreement between the companies also states that AISTECH may further develop this area for GomSpace.

  • There are great perspectives in this agreement for both companies. We gain a position from which we can jointly offer our respective clients a global tracking service, and by joining forces, we open up a big market opportunity that we stand a good chance of winning, Guillermo Valenzuela, CEO of AISTECH Srl., comments.
